Colors of the Year 2016!

The Annual Colors Awarding Ceremony of University of Moratuwa was held with majestically, on the 17th of February 2017 from 4.30pm onwards at the Civil Auditorium under the patronage of Hon Prof. A.K.W. Jayawardhana, the Vice Chancellor of University of Moratuwa and the participation of Hon. Mr. Rohan Fernando, the Chief Guest of the event. They were warmly welcomed by the President and the Lady Representative of the Sports Council of University of Moratuwa.

Following the footsteps of the most respected Sri Lankan tradition, the event was doubly illuminated with the lighting up of traditional oil lamp by the dignitaries, including the honorable Chief Guest, Mr. Rohan Fernando, President, amateur Rowing Association Sri Lanka, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Ananda Jayawardana, Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Rahula Attalage, Director of Physical Education Devision Mr. K.R.D.C. Rathnamudali and the President of the Sports Council Mr. Savindu Herath being called upon once again after their undeniably exalted entrance.

After proudly singing the national anthem the president of the Sports council Mr. Savindu Herath was once again called up to the stage to deliver the welcome speech. In his speech was able to mention the importance of these kinds of events which will power up the sportsmanship of the University.

It was one of the important yet wonderful journeys we ever went through. It was the time for the Secretary of the Sports council to present the annual report. All the victories should humbly have embraced while all the defeats must use the reason to do them better next time.

Nothing can be achieved without the humble help of the Sports council. It was the time for the Director of sports council to address the gathering. He is always behind every victory and who is always energizing our scholars whenever our university happens to endure defeat. “Sport has a paramount importance and is now recognized throughout the world. It is a pity that most people hardly realize that to achieve Physical Fitness one has to keep in touch with Sports. We are very fortunate to have a dynamic Vice-Chancellor who gives high priority to sports and its development programmes in the University” added Mr.K.R.D.C Rathnamudali.

Next it was time for the Chairperson of the Sports Advisory board, Dr. (Mrs.) Sanja Gunawardena to address the gathering. Year 2016 had been a year of success in sports at University of Moratuwa becoming Champions in many sports at the Sri Lanka University Games and other national and international tournaments.  Our sportsmen and women proved once again that they are not only good in academic work but also in extra-curricular activities such as sports.  She congratulated all the sportsmen and women who win awards at the colors awarding ceremony and hope they will continue their involvement in sports and gain greater achievements in the years to come were her words to the gathering.

Captains are the driving force of any team. Their top leadership plays a huge role in the victory of a team. So, these leaders must be appreciated. The next was the time for those leaders to be appreciated. The captains were awarded with colors by the Vice chancellor, Prof. Ananda Jayawardena.

After awarding the colors to the captains, it was the time for the vice chancellor to address the gathering. The University is committed in promoting sports even more to make our students and staff better fulfilled personalities and outstanding professionals. “I hope all of you award winners will join hands with authorities to bring more students towards sports. I appreciate the hard work and commitment of the students for this performance in spite of their very busy academic schedules and the untiring efforts of Mr. K. R. D. C.  Rathnamudali, the Director of Physical Education, Mr. Luxman Wijesuriya, Acting Director of Physical Education Devision in the last year and their staff for guiding the students towards this success. I also thank the chairperson and members of Sports Advisory Board and the university academic staff who supported the Physical Education Division boosting the growth of sports” said the Vice Chancellor.

Next it was the time for the chief guest to address the gathering. Mr.Rohan Fernando, President of the amateur Rowing association Sri Lanka. According to his view these kinds of ceremonies shouts out the true potential which has these scholars. It is not that they all excel in their academic career but also in their sports too. He also added that this kind if a well balance is essential in future.

After the speeches, a wonderful item was arranged by the classical music society of the University of Moratuwa and then the most awaited moment started. The awarding the colors to the winning teams. These colors men and women shoed the true essence of University of Moratuwa sportsmanship. They will forever stand tall among the other students in the country.

Next it was the presentation of the championships and trophies won by the university. It is indeed a magnificent scene to witness 12 evidences of a proud Mora moment. After the presentation of the championships and trophies, it was the time for the very special awards. There were 4 special awards awarded. They are as follows.

After the special awards were distributes among these champions, it was the time for the Lady Representative of the Sports Council to address the gathering in order to conclude this proud ceremony. It was the end of a magnificent sports year and this will be continued for the rest of the Mora days as these young scholars are becoming nothing but a great example for everyone out there.
