International Day of Sport for Development and Peace – 2016

"Sport is a unique and powerful tool for promoting dignity and the equal and inalienable rights of every member of the human family" – Ban Ki-Moon at the IDSDP-2016. As the Third International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) yet first time in Sri Lanka, University of Jaffna took in charge of starting a new trend by celebrating this event. The day is for the sports lovers who are concerning about the sports and it followed by an awareness program of the day and with many sports activities.

Where are we at IDSDP?

Of all the special days in the world why not a day to celebrate “International Day of Sport for Development and Peace” (IDSDP)? International Olympic Committee and United Nations proclaimed together to celebrate this day on April 6 as it is the anniversary of the opening of the first modern Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, in 1896.

“Not all those who wander are lost”. Even though a bus filled with sportsmen and sportswomen wander through an inhabitant road in Dampe, they were travelling to a common goal. It was to build up the leadership and sportsmanship of the fellow players. After about a half an hour of looking at trees passing the bus window, it reached to the destination. Dampe Village, situated just beside the Bolgoda Lake with a breathtaking view facilitated our every need to make this event successful.

Blessings of Formers to the Dawn of a New Era, with Most Popular University Sports Star award 2015

The Glorious evening was glamour with the colors of hope, power and victory, started announcing a new page of the golden history of Moraspirit. The annual General meeting & the Most Popular University Sports Star award ceremony of Moraspirit initiative was successfully conducted on 13th February 2016 at Civil Auditorium at University of Moratuwa.

Sebamalainayagayam Gnanaruban, an undergraduate of University of Jaffna and a national level foot-ball player for consecutive 3 years, won the award of the Most Popular University Sports Star-2015, yesterday (13th February, 2016) at the Award Ceremony and AGM of Mora Spirit Initiative.

One pitch, two innings, one victory: the most popular sport in Sri Lanka, Cricket will be written with a new chapter in University sports history in days with new colors. MillenniumIT International Mora Sixes 2016, invitational international university and institute six a side cricket tournament will be held on 12th and 13th of February in the playground of University of Moratuwa.
