The flash of the shuttlecocks !

The gymnasium of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka was looked much busy from the early morning of 5th August 2017. One of the most awaited days of Inter University Games was started with the participation of 14 universities. Badminton rackets were waited to kick the shuttlecocks and the shuttlecocks were jumped up to fly over the nets.

The event was officially started with the participation of the representatives of all the universities. The hospitality of WUSL was highlighted from the beginning and everyone didn’t forget to thank them for it.

Badminton; one of the speediest sports in the world started with the most powerful cheering voices that filled up the WUSL gymnasium. Every single space of the gymnasium was filled with helping hands to the players. The shuttlecocks moved along with the blinks of eyes. The movement of the rackets which kicked to the shuttlecocks could not be identified. All the players were much talented as they did not allow the shuttlecocks to get down easily. The magical playing of girls and boys was stopped the breathing and warmed the blood of cheering voices.

The results of the great effort of 14 universities were released at last. All of us waited for the winners of preliminary round of badminton tournament of Inter University Games 2017 without putting down the taken breathe. According to the results, under the women’s category universities like Sri Jayawardanapura, Wayamba, Kelaniya, Jaffna, Peradeniya, Uva Wellassa, Moratuwa and Colombo were qualified for the quarter final matches. Under the men’s category universities like Rajarata, South Eastern and Sabaragamuwa were added except Jaffna, Uva Wellassa and Wayamba for the above list.

In women’s matches, University of Peradeniya won the match with Eastern University of Sri Lanka by 3-0 points while University of Colombo and Kelaniya won the matches with University of Rajarata and Jaffna accordingly in the same way. Uva Wellassa University defeated Eastern University while Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka defeated University of Rajarata by getting 3 points. University of Jaffna won the match with University of Visual and Performing Arts by 3-1 while UOM won the matches with UOC and Sabaragamuwa in the same way. University of Wayamba defeated University of Ruhuna by taking 3 points and limiting UOR to one.

Men’s matches were gone as following.

UOP won the matches with EUSL and VPA with 3-0 points while SUSL defeated VPA in the same way. University of Sri Jayawardanapura defeated both UOR and WUSL as with 3-9 points. South Eastern University of Sri Lanka won the match without giving any points to Uva Wellassa University while Rajarata defeated UOR and Wyamba in the same way.

Time passes in a great speed than the speed of the shuttlecock. Quarter finals and semifinals will be on 6th and finals will be on 7th. Do not miss it. Let’s cheer together at WUSL gymnasium.
