At 8.30 am, the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor of University of Moratuwa, Prof. KKCK Perera arrived at the venue. After having an unsophisticated opening ceremony the chief guest congratulated all the teams and declared the commencement of the tournament. Thanks to good weather conditions, without further delay action started at 9.30 AM.

Matches consisted of 10 overs, 5 overs for each team and an over was limited to only 4 balls. In the first match of the tournament, PES University battled against Colombo University. All the players in both teams showed great sportsmanship and played with their best, giving the tournament a refreshing start. Other teams who played in the later matches were able to keep up the enthusiasm consistently through their brilliant playing styles and determination. Almost every match was unpredictable and had a lot of eye-catching moments. The tournament was so intensive and entertaining that even people who were passing by the stadium stopped for a moment, clung to the fence of the ground and enjoyed the competition which made them forget their routines.

Not only that, the tournament also unveiled brilliant talents of some promising university level cricketers. In the very first match, Dinesh of Colombo A team scored 52 runs from just 11 balls. His glorious inning helped Colombo A to cling the victory quite comfortably. In the match between MORA A and NIBM, Hishan Wikramasinhe got 2 wickets by only giving 5 runs through his tremendous bowling. The effort of Umesh of COLOMBO A team who scored 43 from 14 balls against SAEGIS must also be admired and appreciated.

At the end of the first day of the tournament, a total of 15 matches were played. These are the results of the matches of day 1.
