Paddlers began their journey

New gymnasium of Ruhuna University was electrified with motivated voices as Inter University Table Tennis Competition commenced yesterday (16th September). After a short opening ceremony, preliminary rounds began.

Preliminary Rounds were quiet and without much fuzz as the top ranked men’s and women’s teams easily cruised to the quarterfinal except one match.

The match between hot favorite Moratuwa and ever so consistent Jayawardenapura was a 3 hour – heart stopping - nerve wracking roller coaster. Supporters of the two teams were seen more tired with continuous cheering after SJP caused the first upset of the tournament by defeating Moratuwa. But both teams went safely into quarters with easy wins over lower ranked teams.

Kelaniya, Moratuwa and Jayawardenapura qualified for the semifinals by defeating Ruhuna, Wayamba and Jaffna respectively. Colombo given a run for their money as Peradeniya refused to be defeated.
